Government has declared Friday, July 3, 2026 as a public holiday, giving Ghanaians a long weekend to mark Republic Day.
In a press release signed by Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, MP, the Ministry said Wednesday, July 1, 2026 marks Republic Day, which is a Statutory Public Holiday.
However, since July 1 falls on a Wednesday this year, His Excellency the President has, by Executive Instrument (E.I) and in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, Act 601 as amended, declared Friday, July 3, 2026 as a public holiday to be observed nationwide.
Republic Day commemorates Ghana becoming a republic on July 1, 1960, ending the Queen’s role as Head of State.
