The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council has activated emergency measures following flooding in several parts of the region after today’s heavy rains.
In a press release dated June 29, 2026, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo (MP), said her heart goes out to all individuals and families affected. “I sincerely sympathize with those who have suffered losses, displacement and other hardships, and I want to assure every affected resident that you are not alone.

We stand with you during this difficult period.”
The Minister said the safety and well-being of residents remain her highest priority.
She has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, MMDCEs, to “immediately move into their communities with their emergency response teams, NADMO officers and all relevant technical officers” to intensify rescue operations, evacuate persons trapped by floodwater, assess the situation and provide immediate relief.

She added that the Council is working closely with NADMO, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service and other agencies to coordinate response efforts and protect lives and property.
With the Ghana Meteorological Agency forecasting more rainfall, the Minister urged residents to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary movement, stay indoors where possible, and keep away from flood-prone areas, drains and fast-flowing floodwaters.

She also appealed to parents and guardians to keep children safe and not allow them to play in floodwater or attempt to cross flooded roads and drains.
Residents needing help should contact NADMO on:
