The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has issued a strong caution to sports federations and associations to strictly operate within the laws governing sports administration in Ghana or risk sanctions, including the revocation of licenses.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual General Assembly of the Ghana Olympic Committee, the NSA boss stressed the importance of compliance with the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934), which remains the primary legislation regulating sports development and administration in the country.

According to him, Act 934 repealed previous decrees and established the NSA as the central body mandated to oversee, promote, and develop both amateur and professional sports in Ghana under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah noted that recent incidents involving the sidestepping and complete disregard for regulations by some sports federations must not continue.
“Recent side stepping, short cuts and in some instances the complete flouting of laws, rules and regulations by sports federations must not continue. This is not a warning but a friendly advice from the NSA,” he stated.

He further echoed the call made by GOC President Richard Akpokavie for all sports associations to align with the Sports Regulations LI 2477 of 2023 to ensure proper governance and accountability within the sports ecosystem.
The NSA Director General referenced the recent Ghana Boxing situation as an example of how the NSA, together with the Sports Ministry, can take decisive actions when necessary to restore order and ensure proper administration.
“As witnessed with Ghana Boxing, the NSA under the supervision of the Minister of Sports and Recreation, last resorts can be taken to resolve and path a way forward,” he added.
He emphasized that collaboration among stakeholders remains essential for the growth of Ghana sports, stating that institutions, federations, and associations must work together within the confines of the law to achieve sustainable progress.
“The future of Ghana sports will always be brighter when we agree to cooperate and walk together with a common goal to see sports in our country rise to new heights,” he said.
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah also commended the leadership of the GOC under Richard Akpokavie for what he described as a smooth transition, stability, and innovation within a short period.

He praised the GOC for initiating its six strategic core targets and objectives aimed at strengthening relationships among stakeholders and improving the sporting landscape in Ghana.
“We are partners, not competitors”.
We must complement each other’s roles and strengths as we continue to build a consistently evolving, thriving and dynamic sports landscape,” he concluded.
“Together we can do better and rise higher.”
