At least 10 people are dead following a horrific multi-vehicle crash on the Ofankor road in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The crash occurred at about 4:00 a.m. and involved two tipper trucks, two Mercedes-Benz buses, a Toyota Camry, an Uber-branded Nissan Micra and a tricycle popularly known as an Aboboyaa.

Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the deaths to TV3’s Beatrice Adu in a phone interview on the New Day morning show.

ADO I King Nartey described the scene as a difficult and distressing one, with several victims suffering serious injuries. Some bodies were severely crushed, while others sustained devastating injuries, including severed limbs.

Among those rescued is a young girl whose leg has been severed.

Emergency responders also found about seven people unconscious in the vehicles. They were rescued and handed over to the National Ambulance Service, where efforts were made to resuscitate them.

The GNFS officer said rescue and assessment work was still ongoing, and the exact number of people involved in the crash was yet to be established.

The GNFS, Police and National Ambulance Service are at the scene, assisting with the rescue operation, recovery of victims and traffic control.

The affected section of the Ofankor road has been blocked to allow emergency responders to work. Motorists travelling from Pokuase towards Ofankor have been advised to use alternative routes and avoid the affected section.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. The Police and the Ghana National Fire Service are working to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.
