The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for a nationwide clean-up exercise on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 6:00am to 1:00pm each day.
Speaking at a news conference, the Minister said the exercise is in response to the June 29 disaster which claimed lives and left debris and blocked drains across parts of the country.
According to Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Friday, July 10 has been set aside for all security agencies, government institutions, and private institutions to undertake clean-up activities in their areas of operation.
Saturday, July 11 will then be observed by communities nationwide as they join the exercise.
“The purpose of this nationwide clean-up is to clear debris, desilt gutters, and restore environmental hygiene following the June 29 disaster,” the Minister stated.
He urged all Ghanaians to participate fully, adding that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies have been tasked to coordinate and mobilize residents for the two-day exercise.
The Ministry emphasized that the clean-up is also aimed at preventing disease outbreaks in flood-affected areas.
