Government’s proposed Women’s Bank Project is moving from promise to reality, with Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem telling Parliament that major groundwork is complete and funding has more than doubled.
Answering questions from Techiman South MP Martin Kweku Adjei-Mensah Korsah on the rollout timeline, the Asuogyaman MP revealed the government has scaled up commitment to the initiative.
According to the Deputy Minister 2025 Budget allocated GH¢50 million for the bank and for 2026, government has earmarked an additional GH¢450 million, bringing total allocation to GH¢501.3 million.
He said, WDB GH Ltd was officially incorporated on January 26, 2026, marking the legal birth of the bank and Government has applied to the Bank of Ghana for the operating licence required to begin operations.
“Preparatory work has been completed,” Hon. Ampem assured the House.
The Deputy Minister said Parliament should expect a comprehensive update on the Women’s Bank from the Finance Minister during the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review scheduled for July 2026.
The Women’s Bank is expected to provide targeted financial products, credit, and support for women entrepreneurs, traders, and farmers across Ghana.
