The Ghana Police Service has urged final year SHS students to remain disciplined and celebrate responsibly as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) wraps up on Friday, June 19, 2026.
In a press release signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo of the Criminal Investigation Department and dated June 17, police warned that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other unlawful conduct carry serious criminal consequences that can “permanently jeopardise their futures”.
“The Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct”, the statement read.
The caution follows two recent incidents in the Upper East Region that led to 6 arrests:
Zebilla Senior High Technical School 2 students arrested for allegedly burning a teacher’s apartment
Bawku Senior High School: 4 students arrested for rioting, assaulting school staff, and destroying school/private property
The Service is calling on students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to promote “a culture of discipline, respect, and peace” as candidates exit exams.
WASSCE is Ghana’s key exit exam for SHS students and results determine tertiary admission.
