Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has approved a nationwide inter-regional NHIS quiz competition for Senior High Schools, following a meeting with National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe.

The initiative, dubbed “Sensitization Programme and Inter-Regional NHIS Quiz Competition,” was presented to the Minister in his office on April 13, 2026.
Dr. Bampoe said the project is a strategic partnership between the NHIA, Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES), and other stakeholders to advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Hon. Iddrisu directed GES leadership to oversee the successful implementation of the programme.
The Tamale South MP said he expects the project to promote deeper public understanding and long-term behavioural change toward NHIS enrolment and membership retention.

The Minister also commended NHIA Executive Management for supporting government’s planned rollout of the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) and Ghana Medical Trust Fund “Mahama Cares” programmes.
Quiz Details
Initiated by the NHIA’s Corporate Affairs Directorate, Provider and Clients Relations Unit, the quiz aims to improve students’ understanding of the NHIS and promote responsible health-seeking behaviour.
It will run from May to November 2026, covering two regions per month in line with the GES-approved school calendar.
Each of Ghana’s 16 regions will be represented by three selected SHSs.
Participants will answer questions on the NHIS Benefit Package, member responsibilities, exemptions, and the scheme’s role in achieving UHC.
