The Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey in The Volta Region has sent consoling words to his Constituents as their lives have been badly devastated by the recent heavy downpour.
According to him, over 2,000 houses have submerged in water and over 6000 people affected.

Also large tracks of farmlands, comprising rice, maize and other vegetables have equally submerged in water, while fishing activities have also been catapulted by the rain.
He pointed out that this ugly situation has gravely affected his people physically, socially and economically.
He opined that this can bring about economic hardship, health implications as well as food scarcity in the coming days and years.
Factors:

The MP alluded to this unfortunate situation to heavy downpours as a result of climate change, improper human behavior as in dumping of waste in gutters, building on waterways and refusal to dredge gutters.
Also, the Keta Lagoon Complex which has been collecting runoff water from neighboring communities has become full following the downpour.
Double agony:

Keta has been noted for devastation by Sea Erosion over the years. This condition, therefore, adds up to the unpleasant situation, making it a double agorny for them thereby requiring urgent assistance from The State and Corporate Ghana.
He however, assured them of government assistance through NADMO, and his Office.
