The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, paid a courtesy call on the Mamprugu King, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, as part of his official tour of the North East Region.
During the visit, the CGI appealed to the King to encourage his subjects to support immigration officers and other law enforcement agencies in discharging their duties effectively. He acknowledged the challenges posed by both internal and external criminal elements and called for community collaboration in safeguarding Ghana’s land borders for the collective good of the citizenry.
Mr. Amadu also advised that any concerns regarding the conduct of immigration officers should be reported to the Service rather than confronting the officers directly. He assured HRM that his men would continue to perform their duties with utmost professionalism and dedication.
UMr. Amadu conveyed greetings from the Minister for the Interior and Management of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
He emphasized the importance of traditional leadership and sought HRM’s counsel, wisdom, and blessings as he commenced his regional tour.
Welcoming the CGI, HRM Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, expressed his condolences to the Service and the families of officers who were attacked. He pledged his support in efforts to apprehend the perpetrators. He assured continued collaboration between his paramount chiefs, subjects, and Immigration officers.
The King wished Mr. Amadu a successful tenure and encouraged the deployment of additional personnel to the region to bolster border security and protect the community.
Visit to Gbintri Chief
In a related development, the CGI and his entourage also visited the Chief of Gbintri, Gbemtiri Naa Zumzung, at his palace following a stop at the Checkpoint where his men were attacked.
The visit formed part of ongoing engagements aimed at strengthening community relations and enhancing security cooperation in the region.
He also visited the Nasia Inland Checkpoint, the Wunjuga Inland Post, Nalerigu Border Post, and the Regional Headquarters, where he interacted with officers to understand their challenges, boost their morale, and encourage them to remain resolute in the discharge of their duties.
