The Ministry of Health has announced that it has successfully paid the two-month arrears owed to newly recruited nurses, reaffirming its commitment to fair compensation for health workers. The ministry assures affected personnel that payments for the next three months—covering May to July 2026—are also in progress, as previously announced.
In a statement, signed by Tony Goodman, Spokesperson for the Ministry dated on 28th April 2026 said the Ministry expressed appreciation for the patience and cooperation of all stakeholders and reiterated its dedication to strengthening Ghana’s health workforce to improve service delivery across the country. Individuals experiencing challenges or seeking clarification are advised to contact the Human Resource for Health Development Directorate of the Ministry for assistance.
Furthermore, the Ministry revealed that as part of the government’s deliberate effort to absorb trained health professionals, plans are underway to recruit approximately 16,000 health workers this year. Financial clearance has been secured for about 8,000 of these positions, with ongoing efforts to obtain the remaining funds. The Ministry emphasized that no health worker will be engaged without the necessary financial provisions.
The recruitment process will be managed exclusively through the official recruitment portal, which the Ministry described as the sole channel to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability. This measure aims to streamline applications and prevent fraudulent practices.
The Ministry also acknowledged the high volume of prospective applicants, noting that some have been successful while others have not, leading to understandable anxiety among applicants. It assured the public that efforts are ongoing to secure additional clearances to accommodate more qualified candidates.
