The Roche Diagnostics General Manager, Roberto Taboada led a delegation to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Head Office in Accra.
The delegation included the Regional Manager, Dr. Divine Agyemang; Market Access and Government Affairs Lead for West Africa, Mr. Michael Omeihe; Regional Sales Manager, Mr. Mubarak Kweku Gyedu; Medical Science Liaison, Mr. Azubuike Louis Okpani; Health Policy and Partnerships Africa Lead, Mr. Kolapo Fapohunda; and Health Specialist, Ms. Diana Kizza.
The NHIA Operations Deputy Chief Executive, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto granted audience to the delegation.
The two organization’s deepened their collaboration in the areas of diagnostics, treatment access, and healthcare systems strengthening.
The discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration to improve access to innovative diagnostic technologies that can support timely diagnosis and treatment, ultimately contributing to better healthcare delivery and improved health outcomes for Ghanaians.

Dr. Djokoto expressed appreciation for Roche Diagnostics’ interest in collaborating with the Authority and reaffirmed the NHIA’s commitment to working with partners to advance healthcare access, strengthen disease prevention and diagnosis, and improve the health of the population through sustainable interventions in pursuit of Universal Health Coverage.
He took the delegation through the mandate of the NHIA and the evolution of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), highlighting the Authority’s role in ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all residents of Ghana without financial hardship.
He explained that beyond financing curative services, the NHIA has increasingly expanded its focus to support primary healthcare, preventive and promotive health interventions aimed at improving population health outcomes and reducing the incidence of disease.
He noted that the Authority’s ongoing reforms are geared towards strengthening access to healthcare at the community level, promoting early detection and prevention of diseases, and supporting national efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He added that partnerships with key stakeholders in the health sector remain essential to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that Ghanaians receive quality, affordable, and timely healthcare services.
Mr. Taboada outlined Roche Diagnostics’ efforts to support the detection and management of high-burden diseases, including Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Hepatitis B, HIV, and Tuberculosis (TB) and Diabetes. He emphasized the need for wider access to reliable diagnostic services to enable early diagnosis, timely treatment, and improved health outcomes across the country.
He highlighted Roche Diagnostics’ role as a global leader in diagnostics and healthcare innovation, providing diagnostic solutions and technologies that support the detection, monitoring, and management of diseases.
He explained that the company works with governments, health institutions, and development partners across the world to improve access to quality diagnostic services and strengthen health systems through innovative testing solutions.
He noted that timely and accurate diagnosis is essential for effective treatment and improved health outcomes, adding that strengthening diagnostic capacity is critical to reducing the burden of disease and improving the quality of healthcare delivery.
